In 1998 Mother’s Kitchen acquired several quality dessert
brands that upheld the tradition and quality that the Mother’s
Kitchen brand represents. Today, the Mother’s Kitchen
family of products includes these long-time favorite dessert
brands!
Baby Watson®
Renowned in New York City and the surrounding area, Baby Watson
cheesecakes were introduced in 1977 and were originally produced
at a plant in Manhattan’s Chelsea section. The brand
developed strong recognition with its retail package, which
bears an artistic rendering of the Manhattan skyline. The
former manufacturer of Baby Watson had been dissuaded from
using his own name on his cheesecakes, since it was thought
to be too hard to pronounce. Instead, he chose “Watson”
because he thought it sounded “American”, and
he added the “Baby”, since “everyone loves
babies”. When the company introduced individual size
mini round cheesecakes, they were affectionately named “Baby
Cakes® ”. Today, Mother’s Kitchen still produces
a Baby Watson cheesecake, which are sold in supermarkets.
Baby Cakes are available pre-packaged for retail sale under
the Baby Watson brand name and bulk-packaged for foodservice
under the Mother’s Kitchen brand name.
Turf®
New York’s Turf Cheesecakes were originally created
and served exclusively at New York’s famous Turf Restaurant.
In 1929, famous restaurateur Arnold Reuben was served a “cheese
pie” as a guest in a private home, and he fell in love
with the dessert. With his hostess’ recipe and a pie
she made with ingredients he provided, he then began to develop
his own recipe for the “perfect” cheesecake. Reuben
soon began to serve his new recipe in his Turf Restaurant,
and the cheesecake quickly became the toast of the town and
a favorite dessert of actors, politicians, athletes and other
patrons who frequented Reuben’s Broadway restaurant.
Today, Mother’s Kitchen offers the famous Turf cheesecakes
exclusively for mail order, delivering to your door these
luscious cheesecakes just as fresh and creamy as if served
at the once famous Turf Restaurant.
